Coaching dovetails perfectly into what hypnotherapists are striving for - to help others to achieve the lives they want, whether at work or in their personal lives. I use coaching techniques during consultation periods and back up the powerful messages under hypnosis. My clients are getting two therapies for the price of one! The great thing is that, for people who are very busy, the coaching elements can also be done over the telephone. Coaching models help to keep you on track towards your goals. You can practise these at home too. Let me give you a brief example of one such model, called 'TGROW'. Begin by establishing the general Topic you wish to deal with. Sometimes clients may not know where to begin and so the coaching therapist can offer a list of categories such as career, personal relationships, environment, finance, self development. Having chosen the priority in your life, you are encouraged to set Goals. These can be short, medium and/or long term depending on your needs. It is also helpful to set goals for each session, so that you understand what is to be achieved that day. Remember to set SMARTER goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely, (Evaluated and Reviewed on a regular basis). Having set clear realistic goals, look at the Reality of your situation. Here you deal with specifics such as who, what, when and where. (Never ask ‘Why', as this may indicate a judgmental attitude.) At this stage you will seek answers to questions such as: What do I need to be doing in 3 months time in order to meet my goal? What needs to change now? Next, look at your Options: Name 3 steps you want to take towards your goals. What are the benefits of these steps? Do they take you towards where you want to go? What other choices are there? Now note your Way forward. What support do you need to get you there? When will you get the support? What can you do to remove any barriers that may block your way? Ask yourself: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you believe you will achieve this goal?” “On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you want it?” If the answers are below 8: “What can you do/what do you need to make it a 10?” Start the process again to ensure you incorporate these new actions.” List these important actions in a contract with yourself. Sign it and commit to it. Your Hypnotherapist will be there to guide you and help with motivation. The changes can be incorporated into the hypnotherapy session so that your subconscious is prepared and looking forward to the exciting new future.
