| My
name is Christine Pearson BA (Hons), PDCHyp. I trained in psychotherapy
at Regent's College, London, and in hypnotherapy with the London College
of Clinical Hypnosis. My main experience of work is in dealing with
emotional issues, such as overcoming fears, finding meaning and
purpose in life, tackling depression and low self-esteem, and quitting smoking.
I find that psychotherapy and hypnotherapy work very well together to gain
self-knowledge and make positive change. Psychotherapy helps us to gain a
deeper understanding of what is going on in your life and how your life experience
and/or belief system may be contributing to any difficulties you're experiencing.
The increased awareness that this brings about already facilitates change,
but hypnotherapy has a range of very effective tools for finding solutions
and effecting change quickly. What I find wonderful about hypnotherapy is
that it is possible to work with different 'parts' of you, for example the
stronger, more creative aspects of your personality that you may have lost
touch with.
Hypnosis is not a magic wand,
unfortunately. But it does boost the strengths and the skills that you already
have. Like physical exercise, the more you practice using the tools that
hypnotherapy gives you, the better your results will be. Such tools include
deep relaxation, creative visualization, affirmations and mental rehearsals
for success.
Simply by making deep
relaxation a regular practice you will benefit physically and mentally. Letting
your body and mind cast aside worries and tension for a time will allow your
heart beat to slow down, your blood pressure to drop, your adrenaline levels
to fall, and promote better quality sleep and a clearer mind. Positive suggestions,
or affirmations, given in this state of deep relaxation, can take root in your unconscious mind, rather than being brushed aside by your more
cynical conscious mind. This makes it much easier for you to cultivate positive
change.
It takes courage to make
the decision to come into therapy, to focus on yourself and work through
the issues that are causing you difficulty. Be assured that you will be in
a safe, supportive, confidential environment.
